How working with Not a Gym works

Voluntary Sector

Partner with us to improve the holistic wellbeing of your service users - we can also help you achieve your aims and targets.

NHS

We can help to relieve pressure on the NHS; reduce GP appointments and waiting lists; taking social prescribing referrals; reducing the need for expensive operations.

Care Sector

We can deliver in a care home setting in a controlled, ethical, safe manner that takes into account every client whilst adhering
to your procedures and expectations.

‘Getting to know you’ meeting with mentor

Every journey starts with a one-to-one meeting with our specialist team, where we look at our client’s thoughts, experiences, medication, health and motivations. Ideally over a cuppa!

Personal plan produced

Based on the information gathered in the one-to-one meeting, short, medium and long-term goals are set collaboratively between our team and the client.

Signposting: range of activities & timetable shared

Our range of activity is shared with the client, all of which clearly state recommended activity based on a client’s Personal Plan. Our activities state which health conditions are best suited to some activity, and state varied levels of intensity. We also offer a befriending scheme.

Personal plan reviews

Regular reviews of the Personal Plans are made, to match our activity data with the intended outcomes. We check if we can do anything differently to achieve any of the short, medium or long-term goals.

Monitoring and evaluation

We use data and insight from all of our monitoring and evaluation to help guide future clients who can gain from previous client’s experiences.

"Inactivity increases risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease and osteoporosis. Being inactive can lead to being overweight, which can lead to pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes."

Why physical activity and health?

Sport England state that one in four people would be more active if advised by a healthcare professional. This presents a unique opportunity for Not a Gym to work alongside the health profession to support people into activity in a hand-holding role, positively impacting their relationship with activity, improving their physical and mental wellbeing.

How are we different?

Not a Gym recruit and educate our mentor's on the basis of health awareness as well as physical activity, ensuring they have a better understanding of short and long term health conditions faced by clients. We work with neighbourhood health objectives, aiming to work with people who will most benefit from activity.

What is the cost of inactivity to Cornwall?

The annual cost of inactivity in Cornwall is almost £19 million (UK Active, 2018), with physical inactivity contributing to 1 in 6 deaths in the UK, representing 800 deaths a year in Cornwall (Cornwall Council, 2017)

Can we refer into your service?
